When a child/student with additional needs has a new teacher, reliever teacher, teacher aide, support worker or other new person involved in their life it is useful to hand over a one-page summary sheet about the child/student outlining what their needs and supports are and how they cope. This helps speed up the process of the new person getting to know the child/student and working out what they need, how they learn, and what they require. It means the new person in this child’s life can start out on a positive note, being less likely to make mistakes when working with or caring for this child/student.
I did this when my autistic son was in mainstream primary education and his new teachers were grateful for the easily accessible information.
