Improving Life Outcomes sets out to do just that “Improve Life Outcomes”.
In an ideal world, everyone would reach their full potential
Improving Life Outcomes in its current form was launched in 2017. However, it all started in 2012 when I started getting requests from parents and teachers for the resources and communication system I was making for my own autistic son. My son was diagnosed just after he turned 3yrs old. His lack of developing language skills as a toddler was the most obvious sign that he might be taking a different path to development although there were other clues. Once I started a visual communication system with my son and started seeing results I turned my attention to making all manner of resources to help my son not only with his language skills but with his routines, behaviours, learning and anxieties. By the time he started at this local mainstream school, he could follow a work schedule, write his name, knew his alphabet, numbers 1-10, basic colours and draw a stick figure. My son attended mainstream school until the end of year 6. Although my son had some funding he did not have a full-time teacher aide. I worked closely with the school spending many hours in the classroom helping not only my son but other children as well. From this I created more resources, helping all the children in the classroom whether they had learning difficulties or not. Years on these are still in use in these classrooms.
Now my son is enrolled in a special school attending a satellite class at a local high school. I still help out by providing resources that suit my son’s style and stage of learning when needed. There are some things my son can do well
and other things that are challenging but he continues to make progress as he develops. Outside of school, I am determined my son will have many life experiences alongside his family, friends and peers. He has found his passion in music and now plays the Steelpan. He plays regularly with a couple of bands, you can find him on Facebook, Daniel Stanfield Steelpan
I am passionate about Improving Life Outcomes for those with learning difficulties.
Prior to my son’s diagnosis, I worked in research science for 20 years and hold an MSc degree in biological sciences.
